Thank you all so much for coming out and celebrating a “Frozen” weekend with us this past weekend.
It was a great event, and we want to thank all of our scouts and parents for making the weekend a success!
I got the impression that many of the girls loved the theme and structure of the weekend, and many really seemed to enjoy the sing-a-long aspect and song performances! I even has a number of requests for us to have more events where we can learn music in the future, and a few of the girls even asked about learning guitar.
Because of that interest, I thought I’d take a few minutes to share a few resources and tips for any of our scouts who are interested in learning the guitar.
Maybe it’s something Santa can bring (hint hint) and we’ll try to plan a guitar workshop in early 2016!
For now, here’s a few thoughts.
Easy Beginner Guitar Songs
The first thing to keep in mind when you’re trying to learn a new instrument is that the most important thing is to have fun! If you have fun playing, you’ll want to practice more, and eventually you’ll have more interest in some of the “technicalk” aspects like scales and chords that will make you a truly great musician!
To get started with the guitar, there are a number of popular songs that you can learn using only a few chords, and I recommend checking out one of the free online guitar lesson programs, like those provided by GuitarTipsforBeginners.com and Jamplay, to name a few. These programs will really show you the basics and walk you through what you need to know to succeed with guitar!
In the meantime, you’ll want to choose a few songs to work on, and I think this video has a great overview of 10 popular songs you can learn with just two chords!
Check it out:
Wild World Chords
Another song you might consider is the John Denver classic Wild World. While not the most modern classic, this song is a great choice for any beginner, since it uses some of the easiest guitar chords out there.
Sweet Home Alabama Chords
Another song you might consider learning is Sweet Home Alabama. While this song isn’t the easiest song in the world, it is a good beginner-intermediate song, and something that is fun to play and sing along with at our next Scout meeting!
